COVID-19

2020

The Fayette County Fair Board has developed a plan that allows the regular livestock shows, food vendors, and grandstand entertainment to take place.  For months, we have been meeting regularly to discuss options on what the 2020 Fayette County Fair might look like.  We have also considered the governor's CDC, local health officials, and our insurance provider's recommendations, as well as polling the public on their comfort level of attending the fair events during these times.  We have put procedures into place to help lower and mitigate the risk for all those participating in or attending the fair.

Following the state of Iowa's lead, personal responsibility is requested for people to determine if they feel comfortable attending the fair during this time.  We ask that anyone showing any symptoms not attend the fair.  High risk or vulnerable individuals are asked to consider staying home as well.  We are looking at having live streaming of our 4-H and FFA shows for people that feel safer staying home.

FAYETTE COUNTY FAIR INFECTION MITIGATION PLAN

The Fayette County Fair Board has developed a plan that allows the regular livestock shows, food vendors, and grandstand entertainment to take place. For months, we have been meeting regularly to discuss options on what the 2020 Fayette County Fair might look like. We have also considered the governor's CDC, local health officials, and our insurance provider's recommendations, as well as polling the public on their comfort level of attending the fair events during these unprecedented times. We have put the following procedures into place to help lower and mitigate the risk for all those participating in or attending the fair.

  • We have 12 hand wash stations and 4 sanitizer stations. Hand sanitizers will be placed in every building, in every booth, and at every food vendor. We have 6 individuals hired to sanitize and clean throughout the day. They will focus on high traffic areas and clean bathrooms every hour during peak hours. We will log times of bathroom cleanings.

  • We have 6 extra dumpsters that will be dumped every day. All trash will be dumped in dumpsters after every event.

  • All buildings being used this year have large rollup doors. People will be able to enter and exit without having to make any contact. Many of our smaller buildings that have close quarters will not be used this year.

  • We will put up signs to encourage single flow entrance and exit through separate doors.

  • The fairgrounds spans over 40 acres with large, tall, open buildings and plenty of room for social distancing.

  • We have received a large number of PPE: 1200 gloves and 300 masks are on hand at this time with additional items ordered. We have also ordered sanitizer sprayers, which will be received before the fair begins.

  • We will take temperatures of all fair workers and volunteers before each shift.

  • All persons serving food will wear gloves and face coverings or have plexiglass shields in place.

Lisa Roberts, Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator, and Paul Becthold, West Union Chief of Police, will help implement all safety and mitigation plans.

Fair spokespersons or contact for emergencies will be Kevin Converse, Fayette Co. Fair Board President, or Matt Egan, Fayette Co. Fair Board Secretary. Fayette Co. Fair Board Vice President, Keith Koch, will fill in if either of the other two are not available.

Following the state of Iowa's lead, personal responsibility is requested for people to determine if they feel comfortable attending the fair during this time. We ask that everyone be courteous to those around you and respect each other’s social distancing. We ask that anyone showing any symptoms not attend the fair. Face coverings are not required but are highly recommended to help slow the spread of COVID-19. High risk or vulnerable individuals are asked to consider staying home as well.
